Best Picture: the king's speech

Our seventeenth Oscar party proceeds as planned, in some ways very similar to how it was that night back in 1994, when a bunch of us got together to watch an awards show of ungodly length and wager a dollar on the outcome, and in a lot of ways very different. We had some new faces in the crowd this year, and some guests who'd been there at the very first party. One new feature at this year's get-together is our puppy Dug, an enormous Yellow Lab/Irish Wolfhound (we think) mixed breed. He doesn't have any of his predecessor's hosting skills, though, which means that nobody gets barked at or mugged or gets their clothing eaten. (He's young yet, though...give him time). A good time is had by all; Steve Emhe is missed, though.

The fun continues on after the party concludes, however. We've had parties before where our guests have gotten their car mired in our lawn and have required help in setting it free (see: 1999). However, this was the first year in which one of our guests went to the wrong house and got their car stuck in our neighbor's lawn. Whoops!
